THE BENEFITS OF SERVICE

THE BENEFITS OF SERVICE
The benefits of service by far exceed
The cost to you of each kindly deed.

From service comes talents and ability,
Competence, initiative, generosity,
Knowledge, experience, self-confidence,
Wisdom and responsibility.

Teachers learn more than students do
And leaders learn more than followers too.
Service to others expands your soul
And raises your sights to a higher goal.

When you help the sick and the handicapped
You feel kindness and sympathy,
Compassion, patience, tolerance ,
Consideration and empathy.

The service we give, masters selfishness
And helps with laziness too
And replaces them both with self-respect,
Benevolence and a broader view.

By losing yourself in serving your brothers
You will find yourself important to others.
That’s a good feeling that everyone needs
And you’ll keep it alive by doing kind deeds.

Service to others is a guaranteed way
To brighten your outlook from day to day.
While you solve the problems of others you’ll find
Your own fears and worries cease to trouble your mind.

“Whatever I do for society
Benefits me as a member of society.”–Socrates

Church teachings say service is one of the ways
To keep God’s commandments and learn
His laws for our welfare and happiness
That to heaven we may return
