INITIATIVE

INITIATIVE
God gave you moral agency
To choose what you’ll do with your life.
Be a creator, not a victim of circumstance,
And gain knowledge and strength from the strife.

Don’t wait to be commanded in all things. (D&C 58:26)*
Be a “self-starter” with a will of your own.
See what needs to be done and do it!
If necessary, do it alone!

God said, “Be engaged in many good causes
And do many things of your own free will
And bring to pass much righteousness
And my purposes for you fulfill.” (D&C 58:27,28)

The correct principles God has given us
Reveal many things we can do
To promote our welfare and that of others
And accomplish His purposes too.

We can learn, teach our children and others,
Give help to neighbors with needs,
Assist in community projects,
Strengthen friendships through kindly deeds.

Take the first step in starting a project.
Be a leader in getting things done.
Show enthusiasm for what is to be accomplished
And cooperation of others will be won.

Don’t wait for others to be friendly;
They are waiting to see what you’ll do.
Say “Hello!” with a friendly smile and handshake
And they’ll respond warmly to you.

“As you sow: so shall your reap”.
The more friends you make: the more friends you’ll keep.
The initiative you show in helping your brothers
Will bring blessings from God and friendship from others.
